Special Educational Needs and Disability

Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) may need extra help or different lessons in order to help them fulfil their potential.  Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) is Mrs Torpey.  She is very well trained and experienced in her role.

We also have  a number of teachers and teaching assistants who have undergone specialist training to support children with SEND.

Special educational needs may mean your child has difficulty with any of the following:

  • Reading, writing, number work or understanding information
  • Expressing themselves or understanding what others are saying
  • Making friends or getting on with adults
  • Understanding and following routines
  • Organising themselves

Or they may have a medical condition or some kind of sensory or physical need which affects them in school.

All children are individuals and progress at different speeds. However, if you have concerns about your child's progress, please talk to their class teacher or Mrs Torpey.  Home and school can then work in partnership to agree support for your child and help them to make good progress.  If you wish to make an appointment with Mrs Torpey please contact the school office on 01803 557336.
