In June 1989, an Adventure Playground was constructed at Hayes School on part of the playing field by Royal Marine Commandos from the Commando Training Centre in Lympstone near Exmouth in Devon. This was to commemorate the year spent at the school by a visiting teacher from USA. Sadly to playground does not exist today as it was removed to allow for expansion of the school.
