Hayes School - Elderly In Sheltered Housing

As part of the school's Harvest Festival produce is distributed by the Year 6 children to the elderly living in Hayes/Totnes Road Sheltered Housing Scheme. This annual event is rewarding to both recipients and the children themselves.

As part of Hayes School’ trilogy: “We work hard. We have good manners. We care for each other” the children consider the elderly within the vicinity as members of a tight knit community. It is important to the school that children have a deep rooted respect for all, and that by giving of Harvest gifts it is hoped that the children gain a real understanding of how important everyone is within the community.

“The children are our future, however, it is vitally important for them all to realise the hugely important role that our elderly residents have made to the quality of our lives. It is an honour for our school to have such positive links with the residents of Hayes Road.”
